Internal Quality Assurance Unit

University of Information Technology is concerned about ensuring the quality of its academic programmes towards the production of highly skilled graduates who can contribute immensely to socio-economic development of the State and the global community. The Internal Quality Assurance (IQA) Unit conducts a host of QA related activities designed to improve the quality of inputs, processes and outputs of the university system.

The Structure of Internal Quality Assurance Unit

The Internal Quality Assurance Unit is an integral part of the Administrative Department and headed by a QA officer. There are altogether (5) core members including a QA officer. There are also Quality Assurance Representatives from each Faculty and Department that work with the core QA members in achieving  the institution’s set goals.

Functions of the Internal Quality Assurance Unit

The main responsibility of the Internal Quality Assurance Unit is to support for QA at all levels of the institution, and to support the institutional and programme accreditation processes and contents. These responsibilities are framed as follows:

  • To increase the staff’s awareness on quality assurance, quality Management System  and spread quality culture at UIT
  • to develop policies and guidelines not only on teaching and learning and student learning assessment but also on administrative processes
  • to support in the development of policies and guidelines on teaching evaluation, programme review and student learning assessment
  • to promote and implement quality-related strategic developments in accordance with the institution’s vision, mission and strategic planning
  • to promote the culture of academic quality within the institution
  • to monitor, review, audit, evaluate and continuously develop the institution’s quality together with its quality assurance and enhancement strategies, frameworks and procedures at all levels of the institution, for the betterment of academic excellence in learning, teaching and research
  • to support the institutional and course accreditation processes and contents for external organizations and agencies
  • to monitor, review, audit, evaluate and continuously develop institutional and course accreditation

Role of the Senior Management

  • Support IQA Unit by making sure the university as a clear & realistic mission, vision and goals upon which the QMS/QA can be based.
  • Organize and assign institutional level and department level members of Quality Unit
  • Choose and assign a main responsible agent (a QA manager / a QA officer)
  • Allow QA manager/QA officer has the required skills in the form of further individual training
  • Make sure QA members have the development of the skills in form of cascading trainings

Role of the Chief Quality Officer / the QA Officer

  • support the strategic orientation of quality management
  • advise with necessary expertise (knowledge about context, about external demands (e.g. EQA), about methods and instruments)
  • support and to coordinate quality management at the institutional level and department level
  • secure transparency and participation in order to motivate and include different stakeholders to cooperate (individual teachers)
  • to conduct research relating teaching & learning (findings can be used to the quality enhancement in teaching and learning)

Core Tasks in 2019-2020

  • Designing the organizational structure of IQA Unit
  • Specifying the roles and responsibilities of IQA Unit and core members from IQA Unit in the university
  • Conducting the workshops on Awareness on Quality Assurance
  • Conducting training workshops on NAQAC standards & criteria for Institutional level & Outcome-based Education (OBE) for the staff development
  • Contacting  AUN-QA for the university to be a Associate Member
  • Evaluation of Teachers’ perspectives on teaching and learning
  • Documenting the implementation of the QMS in the university

Core Tasks in 2020-2021

  • Doing analysis on current situation according to NAQAC Standards and Guidelines.
  • Preparing for the Accreditation
  • Hosting the workshop for AUN QA Programme Level (Version 4) for all Computer Universities
  • Organizing and carrying out capacity building that are needed for the accreditation process
  • Training and support for lecturers for e-learning
