Enterprise Systems, Security and Risk Management

Course Description

This course covers modern data communication technologies and how they are used in business. It provides exposure to current and emerging networking and telecommunications technologies, introduces software and hardware fundamentals for various computer/network architectures, and provides an understanding of the business context of these technologies. Students will learn how to evaluate, select, and implement different communication options within an organization. The course emphasizes the business context of data communication technologies.

The aims of this course are:

  • To gain knowledge of integrating business processes in an enterprise resource planning (ERP) system.
  • To get in-depth knowledge of major ERP component, material requirements planning.
  • To understand the role of people, vendors, consultants, and the organization in making the ERP implementation successful.
  • To know the ethical, global, and security challenges while implementing an ERP system, and look at the ERP vendors and industry trends.
  • To experience of typical ERP systems, and the advantages and limitations of implementing such systems.

Intended Learning Outcomes

Upon the successful completion of this course, students should be able to:

  • examine systematically the planning mechanisms in an enterprise, and identify all components in an ERP system and the relationships among the components.
  • understand material requirements planning process in an ERP system.
  • apply a leading Enterprise Resource Planning package (SAP, Odoo, etc) to support business operations and decision-making processes.
  • identify the challenges associated with implementing enterprise systems and their impacts on organizations.
